He vividly describes the inhumane practices of the Soviet occupiers and their German helpers, aber auch die alles überwindende Kraft von Menschlichkeit und Liebe.

Moving is the account of his wife Ursula Rathsfeld, which had to secure at this difficult time the family's survival in Nordhausen. Without the support of family and friends would not have been possible.

The book „The Graupenstrasse“ is dedicated to the inmates of Werner Rathsfeld, which is denied a return to their families remained.
